Makila Turboshaft

The Makila turboshaft engine has been developed by the French company Turbomeca which has already delivered more than 1800 of this type of engine. It belongs to the 1300 kW class with expansion to the 1800 kW class.
The Makila exist in 5 versions; 1A, 1A1, 1A2, 1K2 and 2. This latest version - the Makila 2 - produces 14% more thrust than the Makila 1A2.

The engine was chosen for military helicopters like the: Puma, Super Puma, AS 532 Cougar, EC 725 Cougar, Alouette III, DHRUV and the South-African Rooivalk attack helicopter.


Features
The Makila has 3-stage axial compressor, 1-stage centrifugal compressor, annular type combustion chamber, 2-stage gas generator turbine and a 2-stage power turbine.

AS 532 Cougar
The Royal Netherlands Air Force which has a fleet of 17 AS532 Mk2 cougars are equipped with the Makila 1A2 version. These can produce a maximum thrust of 1.573 kW and a constant thrust of 1.236 kW.
