Viking The S-3 Viking is fighter jet which was specially developed for the United States Navy for operations on aircraft carriers. |

The primary role is anti-surface targets and land attacks. The Viking
can also be aerial refueled. It is equipped with systems for surveillance,
electronic warfare, and SAR missions.
The United States Navy has the ability of 113 S-3B aircraft which are stationed on Nimitz, Kitty Hawk and Enterprise aircraft carriers. In 2010, they will be replaced by the F/A-18E and F/A-18F Super Hornet. Origin, the S-3 Viking was developed for anti-submarine missions but they have been updated with new systems for anti-surface targets. The Vikings are operational since 1975.
